A leading British wholesaler which has been headquartered in the North East since its founding in 1987 is continuing to invest in the region.
Kitwave Group has unveiled plans to expand its head office and distribution centre at the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Shields.
The move will see the facility increase from 103,000sq ft to 130,000sq ft, making it one of the largest sites on the estate and committing its future to the site for a further 15 years.
It will also increase the company’s handling and storage capabilities at the site, allowing it to increase output and create more jobs for local people.
UK Land Estates manages and owns Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate and has worked closely with Kitwave since the company first relocated to the estate over three decades ago.
David Gibbs, Property Director at UK Land Estates, said: “We are delighted that Kitwave is continuing to invest in its head office and distribution centre at Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.
“Over the last four decades, the company has gone on to become a real regional success story, creating jobs for local people while opening depots the length and breadth of the UK and hopefully this latest expansion will see this continue as the company continues to go from strength-to-strength.”
Kitwave specialises in selling produce to businesses operating in the retail, wholesale and food service industries across the UK, ranging from fresh foods to alcohol, frozen foods, condiments and snacks.
Founded in 1987, the company started with the purchase of a local confectionary wholesale business and has since grown to a nationwide wholesaler boasting 37 depots across the UK employing over 2,400 people.
